Unveiling HRV from Smart Watch: Definition, Measurement Timing, and Data Acquisition Duration

What is HRV that more and more people are beginning to pay attention to?
And how long does it take to measure HRV after wearing a smart watch?
What is HRV?
HRV refers to the amount of variation in the time interval between consecutive heartbeats. When your heart is beating at a rate of 60 times per minute, the intervals between heartbeats are not uniformly one second. Some beats have intervals slightly less than a second, and some are slightly more than a second. This irregularity is completely normal and healthy.
When checking the pulse, you won't even notice the millisecond-level differences in the intervals between heartbeats (HRV values), but these tiny changes can tell us a lot about stress levels and rest conditions.
When to Measure HRV?
Your compatible smartwatch will measure the time intervals between heartbeats while you are sleeping to calculate your personal baseline.
P.S. Why can't it be measured only during the day?
To avoid disturbances during wakefulness and eliminate the differences in the time/state of self-measurement by the wearer.
Measuring during nighttime sleep has a relatively fixed time, which is convenient for long-term data observation and better reflects the impact of training and load on the body.
How Soon Can I Get My HRV Data?
Seven days after wearing the watch to sleep, you will be able to see your 7-day HRV average. This can show how your body recovers at night and how it tries to maintain homeostasis. After three weeks, you can compare your 7-day average with your personal baseline to see how your daily habits affect your recovery ability and health level.
